Quantum Series Non-Contact Video Extensometer

Real-time strain measurement with precision, powered by advanced DIC technology. Designed for accuracy, operator safety, and flexible use across diverse material testing environments.

Key Applications and Capabilities

Torontech’s latest video extensometer utilizes advanced Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technology to deliver non-contact strain, elongation, extension, deformation, and deflection measurements across a broad range of material tests.

Continuous Visual Tracking

As long as the test specimen remains within the camera’s view, the system captures reliable data throughout the entire testing cycle—without interruption.

Reanalyzable Test Records

All test data saves as image files, enabling post-test reanalysis. Operators can adjust gauge length or measurement location after the test, removing the need for repeated physical trials.

Dual-Axis Measurement in One System

This extensometer records both axial and lateral strains at the same time—without requiring additional sensors—offering a clear advantage over traditional contact-based setups.

Streamlined Workflow

The contactless design removes complex attachment or detachment steps. This reduces wear on equipment, extends service life, and improves safety—particularly during destructive testing or high/low-temperature procedures where physical contact may pose risks.

Error-Free Positioning

With no physical fixtures to attach or remove, common issues such as slippage or alignment drift are effectively eliminated. The system minimizes operator influence, supporting consistent and repeatable results.

Full-Cycle Data Capture

The extensometer tracks each test from start to finish, allowing precise software-driven calculations—including elongation at break—based on complete data sets.

Flexible Connectivity for Integrated Systems

  • Analog Output – Delivers real-time measurements to external instruments.

  • Digital Output – Supports data transfer via serial port or TCP/IP networks.

  • Analog & Digital Input – Accepts signals from external devices for synchronized analysis.

How Does It Work?

Non-Contact Video Extensometer – Quantum Series

What Is a Pattern?

A pattern is a set of points that show a clear difference in gray level from their immediate background. This concept is similar to how constellations are identified through the specific arrangement and spacing of stars.

How Does the System Track?

The system captures an initial pattern and sets it as a fixed reference, then calculates its geometric center. During testing, it continuously compares each new frame against this reference and tracks any movement or shift in the center position. If a portion of the pattern becomes obscured or if deformation exceeds the established confidence limit, the system automatically updates the reference to the most recently detected pattern—ensuring uninterrupted, reliable tracking throughout the test.
