Aluminum Extrusion Baler – ToronBale™ Al

The ToronBale™ Al Aluminum Extrusion Baler is designed to compress aluminum profiles, window frames, and structural sections into dense, transport-ready bales for recycling and secondary smelting. Torontech offers 120-ton and 150-ton models, producing bales weighing 80 kg to 250 kg. Feed openings are available in 1,200 mm and 1,500 mm widths, accommodating long aluminum extrusions without requiring prior cutting to fit the chamber. The machines weigh 4,500 kg and 5,500 kg, respectively.

Loose aluminum extrusions occupy considerable storage and transport space because hollow profiles contain internal air pockets and long, straight sections are difficult to stack efficiently. This reduces container utilization, often limiting payload capacity before the available volume is fully optimized. The ToronBale™ Al compresses these materials into compact, stackable bales, improving space utilization and simplifying scrap handling, storage, and transportation.

The baler features both front and rear opening doors, allowing operators to access the chamber from either side and pass strapping through the compressed material efficiently. A chain-type bale ejector discharges the secured bale, reducing the need for manual handling. The ToronBale™ Al Aluminum Extrusion Baler is suitable for aluminum extrusion manufacturers, window and curtain wall fabricators, metal recycling facilities, and non-ferrous scrap dealers processing production offcuts and recovered aluminum frames.

Aluminum Extrusion Baler – ToronBale™ Al Applications

The ToronBale™ Al Aluminum Extrusion Baler is suitable for industrial operations that generate aluminum profile, sheet, and frame scrap in regular quantities. It compresses bulky aluminum waste into compact bales, helping improve storage efficiency, simplify material handling, and reduce transportation volume.

  • Aluminum Extrusion Plants: Compresses extrusion offcuts, die start-up scrap, and out-of-tolerance lengths for recycling and recovery.

  • Window and Door Fabrication: Compacts frame cut-offs and rejected aluminum units after removing glazing and thermal break strips.

  • Curtain Wall and Facade Contractors: Processes mullion and transom offcuts generated during workshop fabrication and on-site installation.

  • Non-Ferrous Scrap Dealers: Densifies collected extrusion and frame scrap into compact bales for cost-effective transportation to secondary smelters.

  • Solar Module Recycling: Compresses aluminum frames recovered from end-of-life photovoltaic panels after frame removal.

  • Demolition and Building Renovation: Consolidates recovered window frames, cladding rails, and aluminum trim from renovation and demolition projects.

  • Appliance and Furniture Manufacturing: Handles aluminum trim, rails, and structural section offcuts generated during production.

  • Ladder, Scaffold, and Truck Body Manufacturing: Compacts aluminum extrusion waste produced during cutting and fabrication.

  • HVAC and Refrigeration Manufacturing: Processes aluminum fin stock offcuts and coil frame sections for more efficient scrap storage and transportation.

Standards and Safety

The ToronBale™ Al is designed with safety features intended to support industrial baling operations in North American and European facilities. These include an anti-rebound gate structure, a feed-gate interlock that stops platen movement when the gate is open, and a dedicated emergency stop positioned separately from the main controls.

Applicable safety standards, certification requirements, and local regulations depend on the installation location and machine configuration. Confirm the relevant compliance documentation and certification marks with Torontech before installation to ensure the equipment meets the requirements of the intended operating market.

Aluminum Extrusion Baler – ToronBale™ Al Key Features

The ToronBale™ Al Aluminum Extrusion Baler combines high compaction force with a wide feed opening to process bulky aluminum profiles, window frames, and structural sections with less preparation.

  • 120-Ton and 150-Ton Press Force: Provides the compaction force required to compress extruded aluminum sections into dense, manageable bales.

  • Feed Openings up to 1,500 mm: Accommodates long aluminum profiles and assembled window frames, reducing the need to cut materials before baling.

  • Front and Rear Opening Doors: Allows strapping to pass through the chamber from either side, simplifying bale securing and improving operator access.

  • Automatic Chain Bale Ejector: Discharges tied bales from the chamber on command, minimizing manual handling during material removal.

  • Anti-Rebound Gate Structure: Helps retain compressed material and control gate movement during baling operations.

  • Feed Gate Ram Interlock: Stops platen movement when the loading gate opens, helping prevent access to the compaction zone during operation.

  • Independent Emergency Stop: Provides a dedicated emergency control separate from the main operating controls for rapid shutdown when required.

  • Reinforced Ram Guides: Support stable platen movement when unevenly distributed aluminum profiles create variable resistance inside the chamber.

  • Adjustable Bale Height: Supports bale heights from 400 mm to 1,000 mm on both models, allowing bale dimensions to be matched to handling, storage, and transportation requirements.

  • Direct-Coupled Motor and Pump: Uses a direct-drive arrangement designed to maintain motor-pump alignment and support reliable hydraulic system operation.

  • NOK Hydraulic Seals: Features NOK sealing components designed to help maintain hydraulic integrity and reduce maintenance interruptions.

  • A.M.C. Oil Pipe Joints: Incorporates A.M.C. hydraulic pipe fittings designed to maintain secure connections under operating pressure, vibration, and temperature changes.

  • Heavy-Duty Structural Frame: With machine weights of 4,500 kg and 5,500 kg, respectively, the two models provide a robust structure for handling the forces generated during aluminum compaction.

Theory and Method

Aluminum has a lower yield strength than steel, allowing extrusion profiles to deform under comparatively lower compressive stress. During baling, pressure concentrates on the thin walls of hollow sections, causing localized buckling before the entire profile collapses. As compression continues, the sections fold inward like tubes under pressure. The ductility of many 6000-series aluminum alloys used in architectural frames allows them to deform without extensive cracking, helping the compressed material remain connected within the bale. Both ToronBale™ Al models are specified to apply approximately 1.25 MPa across the bale face, supporting compaction suited to aluminum scrap.

Material density also influences the weight of the finished bale. Aluminum has approximately one-third the density of steel, so an aluminum bale occupying the same volume as a steel bale will generally weigh considerably less. Consequently, comparing an aluminum extrusion baler with a steel-focused baling press based on bale weight alone can give a misleading impression of performance. The difference primarily reflects the physical properties of the materials being processed.

Bale density is another important factor in aluminum recycling. During furnace processing, exposed aluminum surfaces can oxidize, potentially reducing metal recovery. Compressing thin-walled scrap into denser bales reduces the exposed surface area relative to the amount of material, which can help limit oxidation losses under suitable processing conditions. The ToronBale™ Al also incorporates reinforced ram guides to support square platen movement throughout the compression stroke. This helps maintain alignment when long extrusion profiles distribute resistance unevenly across the chamber.
