Aluminum Can & PET Bottle Baler | ToronBale™ AP Series by Torontech
The ToronBale™ AP is an aluminum can and PET bottle baler built to compress hollow beverage containers, a material that general-purpose recycling equipment struggles to process. Torontech offers four press ratings, from 30 to 80 tons, with bale weights from 30 kg on the smallest model to 380 kg on the largest. Aluminum cans, PET bottles, and empty oil containers all feed through the same compaction chamber. Machine weights range from 1,400 kg to 2,700 kg.
Cut Storage and Transport Costs
Empty containers are mostly air. A loose PET bottle takes up a lot of space for very little weight, so storage and hauling expenses rise long before a container is full by mass. The ToronBale™ AP removes that void space and keeps it compressed, converting a low-density stream into dense, uniform bales that are cheaper to store and ship. Bale height is adjustable from 200 mm up to 1,200 mm, depending on the model.
Anti-Rebound Chamber Design
Spring-back is the main challenge when baling hollow containers. Anti-rebound structures inside the chamber hold each compressed layer in place, so the material cannot expand when the platen lifts. Recycling centers, bottlers, redemption depots, and venue operators all rely on the ToronBale™ AP to turn loose container waste into a sellable commodity that reclaimers and smelters will pay for.
Aluminum Can & PET Bottle Baler | ToronBale™ AP Applications
The ToronBale™ AP is built for any operation that generates steady volumes of empty beverage containers or similar hollow packaging. From high-throughput recycling plants to compact back-of-house spaces, this aluminum can and PET bottle baler turns bulky container waste into dense, sellable bales.
Where the ToronBale™ AP Is Used
- Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs): Bales the sorted PET and aluminum fractions coming off optical and eddy current separation lines.
- Container Deposit and Redemption Centers: Compacts returned bottles and cans on site, cutting the number of collection trips from high-traffic depots.
- Beverage Bottling and Canning Plants: Handles reject containers, line scrap, and returned stock so loose material never has to go to landfill.
- Supermarkets and Retail Chains: Processes back-of-house container waste alongside customer return collections.
- Stadiums, Arenas, and Event Venues: Compresses the large single-event volumes generated by concession and vendor sales.
- Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering Operations: Consolidates bar and kitchen container waste in limited back-of-house space.
- Scrap Metal Dealers: Bales used beverage cans into dense units that are priced by weight at the smelter.
- Lubricant and Chemical Packaging Recovery: Compacts drained empty oil bottles and similar rigid containers.

Aluminum Can & PET Bottle Baler | ToronBale™ AP Key Features
The ToronBale™ AP combines a chamber designed for high-rebound containers with the safety interlocks and hydraulic components that continuous recycling duty demands. Every feature below is built to keep your aluminum can and PET bottle baler running safely, producing dense bales shift after shift.
Core Features
- Four Press Ratings, 30 to 80 Tons: One baler family covers everything from small depots to high-volume recovery facilities, so you never over-specify.
- Anti-Rebound Gate Structure: Built to European and U.S. safety practice, it holds compressed containers in place and blocks uncontrolled door movement.
- Automatic Chain Bale Ejector: Discharges the tied bale from the chamber on command, eliminating manual handling of loads up to 380 kg.
- Wide Adjustable Bale Height: Set bale height from 200 mm to 1,200 mm, depending on the model, to match buyer requirements or handling limits.
- Compact Floor Footprint: The 30 ton model occupies just 1,280 x 850 mm, fitting depot back rooms and retail service areas.
Operator Safety
- Feed Gate Ram Interlock: Stops downward platen travel the moment the loading gate opens, keeping hands clear of the compaction zone.
- Independent Emergency Stop: A dedicated, prominently mounted circuit cuts hydraulic function separately from the main control system.
Structural and Compaction Reliability
- Reinforced Ram Guides: Keep the platen face square when containers shift unevenly during collapse, protecting cylinder seals from side loading.
- Automatic Load-Balancing Design: Distributes compaction force across the platen, so off-center charges do not cause sudden shifts mid-stroke.
Hydraulic System Durability
- Direct-Coupled Motor and Pump: A cross-connected direct drive keeps motor and pump fully concentric, replacing conventional couplings and extending pump service life.
- NOK Hydraulic Seals: Japanese-sourced sealing components lengthen service intervals and reduce seal replacement downtime.
- A.M.C. Oil Pipe Joints: Japanese-made fittings keep hydraulic connections leak-free through thermal cycling and vibration.
Aluminum Can & PET Bottle Baler | ToronBale™ AP Theory and Method
Understanding how hollow containers compress explains why the ToronBale™ AP is engineered the way it is. This aluminum can and PET bottle baler works with the buckling behavior of cans and bottles instead of fighting it, which is how it produces dense, stable bales.
How Hollow Containers Compact
Cans and bottles do not densify gradually like solid scrap. Each container carries load along its walls until the applied stress reaches the buckling point, and the enclosed volume then collapses almost instantly. Because of this, pressure requirements stay modest. The 30 ton ToronBale™ AP applies roughly 0.6 MPa across its 800 x 600 mm bale face, enough to collapse container walls without the extreme force that solid scrap demands.
Aluminum vs. PET: Why Recovery Matters
What happens after collapse is where the two materials differ.
- Aluminum cans: The metal passes its yield point and stays folded, so a crushed can keeps its shape indefinitely.
- PET bottles: Blow molding biaxially orients the bottle walls, which gives the polymer an elastic memory. A crushed bottle pushes back toward its original form once the load is removed, and any bottle that still has its cap on traps air that resists collapse entirely.
How the Chamber Controls Spring-Back
The ToronBale™ AP chamber hardware is designed around that recovery behavior.
- Anti-rebound dogs: Mounted on the chamber walls, they engage each compacted layer and block upward expansion when the platen retreats. Successive charges build density instead of re-compressing material that has already sprung back.
- Ram guides: They keep the platen square as containers redistribute unevenly during collapse.
- Tying under load: Strapping the bale while it is still compressed locks in the compacted state, which is why bale straps carry high residual tension on PET bales.
