Vertical Tire Baler – ToronBale™ VT

The ToronBale™ VT Vertical Tire Baler compresses passenger car, truck, and bus tires into securely strapped bales weighing 1 to 1.9 tonnes. Torontech offers two models with different chamber sizes, each delivering 120 tons of pressing force. The systems draw 15 kW and 22 kW of power, respectively. Designed for tire recycling facilities, waste management companies, and scrap processing operations, these vertical tire balers reduce the storage volume of bulky rubber waste and simplify transportation. With machine weights of 7 and 12 tonnes, the two configurations provide the structural capacity required for high-force tire compaction.

Tires naturally resist compression because their elastic rubber construction tends to recover its original shape when pressure is released. To prevent compressed tires from expanding, the ToronBale™ VT features retractable retainer claws that mechanically secure each compressed layer throughout the baling process. The specifications also distinguish between the initial bale dimensions and the dimensions after expansion. These expanded measurements are important when planning warehouse storage, truck transport, and shipping container capacity.

Both vertical tire baler models feature a split-platen design consisting of two sections connected by movable links. Since tires create uneven contact surfaces during compression, a rigid, single-piece platen can experience uneven loading and unwanted twisting. The linked platen sections adjust to the tire arrangement, helping distribute pressure across irregular loads. An integrated hydraulic oil cooling system, available in air-cooled or water-cooled configurations, manages heat generated during sustained compression. These features support consistent operation and reliable tire baling in demanding industrial environments.

Vertical Tire Baler – ToronBale™ VT Applications

The ToronBale™ VT Vertical Tire Baler supports industries that collect, process, store, and transport scrap tires. By compressing bulky rubber casings into strapped bales, it helps reduce storage requirements, improve handling efficiency, and optimize transportation capacity.

  • Tire Collection and Recycling Centers: Compresses incoming scrap tires into compact bales, reducing stockpile volume before recycling, processing, or resale.

  • Tire Retailers and Service Chains: Consolidates used and discarded tires generated by multiple service bays, helping maintain organized storage areas.

  • Municipal and Regional Tire Collection Programs: Reduces the volume of tires collected through community drop-off points, tire collection events, and illegal dumping cleanup operations.

  • Transfer Stations and Landfill Operations: Compacts scrap tires for easier handling and transport to authorized recycling or disposal facilities where whole-tire burial is restricted.

  • Tire-Derived Fuel Suppliers: Prepares scrap tires into consistent bales for transportation to cement kilns and energy recovery plants.

  • Pyrolysis and Crumb Rubber Processing Plants: Compresses tire feedstock at collection and storage points, helping improve inbound freight efficiency.

  • Fleet and Transport Depots: Manages the high volume of discarded truck, bus, and commercial vehicle tires generated through scheduled replacement programs.

  • Scrap Tire Export Operations: Produces uniform, strapped tire bales that support organized container loading and efficient international shipping.

  • Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Projects: Supplies compressed tire bales for approved embankment, erosion control, and other civil engineering applications where permitted by local regulations.

Standards and Safety Compliance

No published standards compliance information is currently available for the ToronBale™ VT Vertical Tire Baler. The machine features a hydraulically operated chamber door and retractable retainer claws designed to secure compressed tires and control material rebound.

The available supplier specifications do not identify an emergency stop system or feed-gate interlock for this model. Buyers should confirm the supplied safety features, applicable certifications, and required technical documentation with Torontech before ordering. Compliance with local machinery safety regulations and workplace requirements should also be verified before installation and operation.

Vertical Tire Baler – ToronBale™ VT Key Features

The ToronBale™ VT Vertical Tire Baler is designed to address the challenges of compressing scrap tires, particularly their tendency to expand when hydraulic pressure is released. Its mechanical retention system, linked platen design, and hydraulic components support efficient tire compaction, bale handling, and storage.

  • Retractable Retainer Claws: Secure each compressed tire layer to control rubber rebound and retract to release the completed bale.

  • Split Platens with Movable Links: Two linked platen sections adapt to uneven tire surfaces, helping accommodate irregular loads and reduce stress associated with rigid platen designs.

  • Dual Cylinders with Independent Operating Frequencies: Allow the cylinders to operate at different rates when tire distribution is uneven, helping protect the platen during compression.

  • Bale Output of 1 to 1.9 Tonnes: Two chamber sizes accommodate different scrap tire volumes, from collection depots to high-volume recycling facilities.

  • Bale Dimensions Before and After Expansion: Published expanded bale measurements support accurate planning for storage areas, transport vehicles, and shipping containers.

  • Air-Cooled or Water-Cooled Oil Cooling System: Helps control hydraulic oil temperature during repeated tire compression cycles.

  • Hydraulically Operated Chamber Door: Provides powered door opening and closing, reducing the manual effort required to handle a heavy chamber door.

  • Front and Rear Opening Doors: Provide access from both sides of the chamber for bale strapping and discharge operations.

  • Automatic Chain Bale Ejector: Uses lifting chains to discharge finished bales weighing up to 1.9 tonnes, reducing the need for manual bale handling.

  • Manual Control System: Offers direct operator control for routine baling operations in industrial yards and tire recycling facilities.

  • Taiwanese Hydraulic Package: Features a coordinated hydraulic system designed to support the machine's tire compression functions.

  • Schneider Electrical Components: Incorporates electrical components from Schneider Electric, with replacement parts available through established distribution channels.

  • A.M.C. Oil Pipe Joints: Uses Japanese-made hydraulic pipe fittings designed to maintain secure connections under vibration and temperature changes.

  • Heavy-Duty Structural Frame: Machine weights of 7 and 12 tonnes provide the structural mass needed to withstand the forces generated during tire compression and bale retention.

Theory and Method

Vulcanized rubber presents unique challenges in scrap tire compaction because its cross-linked polymer structure allows it to recover much of its original shape after compression. Unlike aluminum scrap or corrugated cardboard, tires retain substantial elastic recovery, while steel belts and reinforced bead rings add structural stiffness that resists folding. As a result, compressed tires require mechanical restraint to maintain bale integrity after hydraulic pressure is released. The ToronBale™ VT addresses this behavior with retractable retainer claws that secure individual tire layers and help control expansion during bale formation and release.

Bale expansion is an important factor in tire baler operation and storage planning. The smaller model produces a compressed bale measuring 1,530 × 790 mm, which expands to 1,600 × 850 mm after release. The larger model increases from 2,100 × 1,200 mm under compression to 2,200 × 1,300 mm after expansion. These final dimensions should guide shipping container calculations, warehouse layout, and storage rack spacing. Bale strapping must also withstand the continuous outward pressure exerted by the compressed rubber to maintain the bale's shape during handling and transportation.

Both ToronBale™ VT models deliver 120 tons of pressing force, but their different chamber sizes affect the resulting bale dimensions and density. The smaller chamber applies force across an area of approximately 1.2 m², achieving a reported bale density of around 690 kg/m³. The larger chamber distributes the same pressing force across approximately 2.5 m², producing larger bales at a reported density of around 540 kg/m³. Selecting the appropriate model therefore depends on whether an operation prioritizes higher bale density and compact storage or larger bale dimensions for processing and transportation.
