ToronBale™ VP Vertical Plastic Film Baler for Stretch Wrap, LDPE & Shrink Film
The ToronBale™ VP vertical plastic film baler turns loose stretch wrap, LDPE sheeting, shrink film, and mixed soft plastic scrap into dense, tied bales that reprocessors will buy. Torontech offers this plastic film baling machine in 30 ton and 50 ton press configurations, so you can match the baler to your daily film volume. The same chamber also bales corrugated cartons and old newspaper, making it a flexible choice for mixed recyclable streams.
Wide Feed Door for Bulky Loose Film
The feed door is 1,100 mm or 1,500 mm wide. Bulky loose film goes straight into the chamber, with no pre-cutting or hand-folding, which narrow-throat balers usually require. Operators load faster and spend less time prepping material.
Anti-Rebound Design for Dense, Stable Film Bales
Plastic film is harder to compress than paper. Its low bulk density means each load takes up a lot of space for very little weight, and the film springs back as soon as the platen lifts. The ToronBale™ VP solves both problems with high press force for its chamber size and an anti-rebound gate structure that locks each compressed layer in place.
Typical bale weight:
- 30 ton model: 150 to 250 kg
- 50 ton model: 300 to 500 kg
Automatic Chain Ejector
An automatic chain ejector lifts each finished bale out of the chamber. Operators no longer have to tip bales out by hand, as older vertical balers require, which saves time and reduces handling effort.
Turn Film Waste into a Saleable Commodity
Recycling facilities, distribution centers, and film converters use the ToronBale™ VP to turn a bulky waste stream into a product they can sell. Baled film ships at a fraction of the volume of loose material, so you need fewer pickups, pay less for haulage, and rent fewer containers. That lowers disposal costs and improves recycling revenue.
ToronBale™ VP Vertical Plastic Film Baler Applications
Where the ToronBale™ VP Plastic Film Baling Machine Is Used
The ToronBale™ VP vertical plastic film baler compacts soft plastic waste across retail, industrial, and agricultural operations. It also bales mixed fiber such as cardboard and paper, so one machine can handle both streams.
Applications by Industry
- Distribution Centers and Warehouses: Bale pallet stretch wrap and shrink hoods removed from inbound freight at the receiving dock.
- Plastic Film Converters and Extruders: Compact edge trim, purge, start-up scrap, and rejected reel stock into bales ready to return to a reprocessor.

- Retail Chains and Supermarkets: Consolidate back-of-house film, produce bags, and cardboard waste in one baler.
- Agricultural Operations: Bale silage wrap, greenhouse sheeting, and mulch film once it has been recovered from the field and roughly cleaned.
- Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs): Densify the sorted film fraction, which otherwise takes up a disproportionate amount of storage space per ton.
- Packaging and Printing Plants: Process laminate offcuts, poly overwrap, and interleaving film produced during converting runs.
- Textile and Nonwoven Manufacturing: Compress soft polymer scrap and protective wrap from incoming raw material deliveries.
- Automotive and Electronics Assembly: Bale protective component film, bubble wrap, and poly bagging left over from kitted parts.
One Baler for Film and Fiber
Many sites generate film and corrugated waste side by side. The ToronBale™ VP handles both in the same chamber, which saves floor space and avoids buying a second machine. Whether you run stretch wrap baling at a dock or process agricultural film after harvest, the result is the same: a dense, tied bale that is easier to store, cheaper to ship, and ready to sell.
ToronBale™ VP Vertical Plastic Film Baler Key Features
The ToronBale™ VP vertical plastic film baler combines a wide-mouth loading design with safety interlocks and hydraulic components chosen to keep a high-cycle machine running reliably.
Loading and Bale Handling Features
- Automatic Chain Bale Ejector: Lifts and discharges the finished bale from the chamber on command. This removes the manual tipping step and shortens cycle turnaround.
- Wide Auto-Lift Feed Door: The loading door rises with the platen, so operators can feed bulky loose film continuously without a separate door-opening action.
- Oversized Feed Opening: A clear width of 1,100 mm or 1,500 mm takes full stretch-wrap rolls, shrink hoods, and flattened cartons with no pre-cutting.
- Adjustable Bale Height: Set bale height between 500 and 1,000 mm, depending on the model, to match bale weight to your container or trailer capacity.
Operator Safety Features
- Feed Gate Ram Interlock: Stops downward platen travel the moment the loading gate opens, keeping hands clear of the compaction zone.
- Safety Door Start Interlock: The baler will not start while the safety door is open, which removes a common cause of unintended cycling.
- Independent Emergency Stop: A dedicated, prominently mounted circuit cuts hydraulic function separately from the main control system.
- Anti-Rebound Gate Structure: Designed to European and U.S. safety practice, it holds compressed film in place and blocks uncontrolled door movement.
Structural Strength and Stability
- Reinforced Ram Guides: Keep the platen face square when film loads sit unevenly, which protects cylinder seals from side loading.
- Automatic Load-Balancing Design: Spreads compaction force across the platen, so off-center charges do not cause sudden shifts during the stroke.
Hydraulic System Components
- Direct-Coupled Motor and Pump: A cross-connected direct drive keeps the motor and pump fully concentric. It replaces conventional couplings and extends pump service life.
- Superposed Valve Block: This stacked valve assembly, sourced from Taiwan, takes up less installation space and makes servicing easier.
- NOK Hydraulic Seals: Japanese-made sealing components lengthen service intervals and cut seal replacement downtime.
- A.M.C. Oil Pipe Joints: Japanese-made fittings keep hydraulic connections leak-free through temperature cycling and vibration.
Why These Features Matter
Together, the wide auto-lift feed door, chain ejector, and anti-rebound gate speed up loading, bale removal, and compaction, while the interlocks and emergency stop protect operators. The branded hydraulic components reduce downtime and maintenance costs over the life of the baler.
ToronBale™ VP Vertical Plastic Film Baler: Theory and Method
How Plastic Film Baling Works
Baling cuts the volume of loose material by pushing out trapped air and compressing the charge past its elastic limit. The ToronBale™ VP vertical plastic film baler is built around the way polyethylene film actually behaves under load.
Compressing Viscoelastic Polyethylene Film
Polyethylene film is viscoelastic, so a compressed stack recovers much of its thickness once the load is released. The platen must therefore drive each charge well past the point of first resistance and hold pressure long enough for two things to happen: the polymer layers yield, and trapped air escapes through the gaps in the chamber. In a plastic film baling machine, press force does the job that fiber interlocking does in a paper bale.
How Film Layers Stay Compressed
Paper bales hold together through fiber entanglement. Film bales rely on friction between layers instead. Compressed sheets meet across a large contact area, and static charge and surface tack keep them bound together.
Anti-rebound dogs on the chamber walls add mechanical retention. They bite into each compacted layer and block upward recovery when the platen retreats. Each new charge then compresses against a stable base rather than re-compressing material that has sprung back, so bale density builds with every stroke.
Chamber Size and Press Force
Chamber geometry sets the force requirement. On the 50 ton model, the 1,500 mm wide bale face spreads the load over roughly twice the area of a narrow chamber, which lowers the unit pressure at any given cylinder force. This is why the larger chamber pairs with a 50 ton press and a 7.5 kW motor, while the smaller chamber uses the 30 ton, 5.5 kW package.
Even Pressure Through the Full Stroke
Reinforced ram guides keep the platen square throughout its stroke. Pressure stays even across the bale face, even when film piles unevenly in the chamber, which produces uniform, stable bales.
