Biomass Processing System for Gasification and Co-Firing
The ToronBPS™ 300M Biomass Processing System converts agricultural and forestry waste into fine particles for gasification and biomass co-firing applications. It supports gasification plants, power generation facilities using biomass co-firing, and biomass fuel processing operations that require bulky raw materials to be processed into fine powder, pellets, or briquettes through a continuous production line. The system integrates a dual-shaft shredder, an ultrafine shredder, and optional downstream equipment for screening, drying, and molding.
Metal chain conveyors or grab feeders transport biomass into the dual-shaft shredder, where shearing, tearing, and extrusion break down the raw material. A belt conveyor then transfers the shredded biomass to a uniform distributor, which regulates material flow before feeding it into the ultrafine shredder. This second-stage reduction produces particles measuring 5 mm or finer, making the material suitable for gasification or further processing into pellets.
Designed for continuous operation, the production line incorporates smart operation and maintenance (O&M) monitoring. Optional equipment can be integrated according to processing requirements, including a trommel screen and magnetic separator for screening and impurity removal, a drying system for reducing moisture content, and a pellet mill with a counterflow cooler for pellet production. This modular design allows the final output to meet the feedstock requirements of different gasification and co-firing processes, whether fine powder, compressed pellets, or briquettes are needed.
Biomass Processing System – ToronBPS™ 300M Applications

The ToronBPS™ 300M is suitable for industrial operations that process agricultural residues and forestry waste into consistent particle sizes for thermal energy generation or gasification feedstock.
-
Gasification Feedstock Preparation: Reduces biomass to 5 mm or finer for gasification processes that produce syngas or other derivative fuels.
-
Biomass Co-Firing at Power Plants: Prepares uniformly sized biomass for combustion alongside coal or other primary fuels in power generation boilers.
-
Agricultural and Forestry Waste Recycling: Converts crop residues and forestry byproducts into usable feedstock, providing an alternative to open burning or landfill disposal.
-
Biomass Pellet and Briquette Production: Supplies finely ground and dried biomass to a pellet mill for manufacturing biomass pellets or briquettes.
-
Continuous Biomass Fuel Processing: Supports production facilities that require uninterrupted processing with minimal manual intervention.
Biomass Processing System – ToronBPS™ 300M Key Features
The ToronBPS™ 300M integrates shredding, screening, drying, and optional pelletizing equipment into a modular production line designed for continuous biomass processing.
-
Smart Operation and Maintenance (O&M): Monitors production line performance to support continuous operation with minimal manual intervention.
-
Continuous Processing: Operates as a continuous production system rather than through batch cycles, helping maintain a steady supply of processed feedstock.
-
Cleaner Production: Integrated dust and impurity removal helps limit particulate release and improve the purity of the processed output.
-
Two-Stage Shredding: Combines a dual-shaft shredder and an ultrafine shredder to reduce biomass to 5 mm or finer.
-
Optional Screening and Impurity Removal: Incorporates a trommel screen and magnetic separator to remove oversized particles and ferrous contaminants.
-
Optional Drying System: Lowers feedstock moisture content before the material enters pelletizing operations or is used for gasification.
-
Optional Pelletizing with Counterflow Cooling: Combines a pellet mill and counterflow cooler to produce cooled, stable biomass pellets or briquettes.
Theory and Method

The dual-shaft shredder processes raw biomass through a combination of shearing, tearing, and extrusion instead of relying on a single cutting action. Its two counter-rotating shafts draw agricultural and forestry waste inward and process it between interlocking cutters. This mechanism breaks down fibrous materials with varying densities while reducing the wrapping and jamming issues that high-speed single-cutter systems may encounter when handling long fibers or branches.
Following the initial shredding stage, the uniform distributor regulates the material flow into the ultrafine shredder. This second-stage unit further grinds the pre-shredded biomass to a particle size of 5 mm or finer. Processing material that has already been reduced in size and evenly distributed enables the ultrafine shredder to produce smaller, more consistent particles than a single-stage reduction process would achieve when handling the full-size raw material.
When the optional pellet mill is installed, mechanical pressure forces the finely ground biomass through a die to form pellets. The counterflow cooler then lowers the temperature of the newly formed pellets before handling or storage. This cooling stage helps stabilize pellet structure because freshly discharged pellets are softer and more susceptible to breakage until they cool and harden.
