Manual Transfer Stretcher

The ToronCare™ 1140 A is an advanced manual transfer stretcher designed to build on the established ToronCare™ 1140 platform. It features enhanced backrest articulation indicators and gas-spring-controlled retractable PP side railings, providing a practical hospital stretcher bed for healthcare facilities that require accurate patient positioning and efficient lateral transfer.

A key feature of the ToronCare™ 1140 A manual transfer stretcher is its integrated backrest angle indicator system. Positioned beneath both sides of the backrest section, the indicators provide a clear reference for the backrest elevation angle, helping clinical staff achieve consistent patient positioning during transport to operating rooms, imaging departments, and procedure areas. This positioning control can be particularly useful when managing patients who require specific respiratory, spinal, or post-operative positioning.

The damping PP retractable side railings use gas-spring control for smooth and controlled movement. The railings can be lowered and retracted beneath the bed board surface, creating a flush transfer interface with adjacent operating tables or hospital beds. This configuration supports smooth lateral patient transfer across connected surfaces without requiring manual lifting.

With a net weight of 75 kg, the ToronCare™ 1140 A provides a functional medical stretcher transport solution for general wards, emergency departments, operating areas, and other healthcare environments across the United States and Canada.

Transfer Stretcher (Advanced) — ToronCare™ 1140 A

  • Operating room transfers requiring flush-contact, gap-free lateral movement between the stretcher and O.R. table

  • Emergency departments requiring a hospital emergency stretcher with quick, one-operator side-rail adjustment

  • Hospitals and ambulatory care centers seeking ergonomic manual stretcher performance with enhanced positioning features

  • Neurology, spine, and orthopedic units where controlled backrest positioning supports patient transport requirements

  • Healthcare facilities upgrading their hospital stretcher and patient transport equipment with ergonomic, precision-positioning designs

Transfer Stretcher (Advanced) — ToronCare™ 1140 A Key Features

  • Gap-free transfer interface with an operating table or hospital bed supports direct lateral patient transfer without lifting

  • Manual scissor-lift crank height adjustment provides a 860–505 mm height range, measured from the bed board to the ground

  • Backrest adjustment from 0° to 85° with bilateral angle indicators supports consistent positioning during patient care and transportation

  • Central-lockable 360° swivel castors, 150 mm in diameter, allow simultaneous locking of all wheels for stability

  • Retractable 5th wheel provides enhanced directional control and maneuverability during stretcher transportation through hospital corridors

Theory and Method

The ToronCare™ 1140 A uses a manual crank-driven scissor-lift mechanism to adjust stretcher height from 860 to 505 mm, measured from the bed board to the ground. The crank system provides controlled, stepless height adjustment across the full operating range, supporting stable patient positioning throughout transport and transfer procedures.

The bilateral backrest angle indicator system uses graduated scales positioned beneath the backrest articulation points. As the backrest moves between raised and lowered positions, an indicator pointer follows the corresponding angle on the scale, providing a direct visual reference for positioning. This allows clinical staff to set and verify backrest angles without relying on visual estimation or a separate angle-measuring device.

The gas-spring-controlled PP retractable side railings provide smooth, damped movement during retraction beneath the bed board. The controlled spring action helps minimize sudden movement and impact as the railings are lowered. Once retracted, the railings sit flush beneath the bed board, allowing the ToronCare™ 1140 A to align closely with an operating table or hospital bed for gap-free lateral patient transfer. After release, the gas-spring mechanism guides the side railings back toward their upright safety position.
