Manual Transfer Stretcher
The ToronCare™ 1170 Manual Transfer Stretcher is a high-quality hospital stretcher designed for general patient transport across hospital departments, emergency areas, diagnostic imaging suites, and procedure rooms. Built for routine hospital use, the 1170 combines a durable manual scissor-lift height adjustment system, central-locking castors, and a retractable 5th directional wheel to support stable, controlled patient movement throughout acute care environments.
Featuring a heavy-gauge aluminum alloy frame and a large, flat bed board, the ToronCare™ 1170 hospital transfer stretcher provides a stable and comfortable platform for patient transport and short-duration clinical procedures. Its manual crank height-adjustment system uses clearly marked directional arrows for straightforward operation. By adjusting the crank, the bed board can be aligned with an adjacent operating table or procedure platform, helping facilitate efficient patient transfers with reduced lifting.
The retractable aluminum rotary side rails can be positioned flat against an adjacent surface, allowing them to function as a transfer board during lateral patient movement. This design supports efficient transfers in emergency departments and other areas where rapid patient handling is required. With a net weight of 92 kg, the ToronCare™ 1170 combines a durable construction with practical maneuverability for frequent use across hospital departments in U.S. and Canadian healthcare facilities.

Theory and Method
The ToronCare™ 1170 Manual Transfer Stretcher uses a side-mounted crank handle to operate its manual scissor-lift height adjustment system. Rotating the crank clockwise raises the bed board, while counterclockwise rotation lowers it. The scissor-lift design maintains parallel movement of the bed platform throughout the 590–850 mm height range, supporting stable patient positioning during adjustment. Color-coded directional arrow symbols on the crank mechanism provide clear visual guidance for height control and help reduce the possibility of operating errors during stretcher use.
The central-locking castor system controls all four 360° swivel castors through a single foot-pedal mechanism. Engaging the central brake secures the stretcher during patient loading, unloading, bedside care, and clinical procedures. A retractable 5th directional wheel extends from the undercarriage to improve straight-line tracking and reduce steering effort when transporting the stretcher over longer distances, including through hospital corridors and elevators.
For direct transfer between the stretcher and an operating table, procedure table, or bed, the aluminum rotary side rails can be lowered flat alongside the adjacent surface. Once the surfaces are properly aligned, the bed board can be moved horizontally using the crank-operated transfer mechanism. This configuration creates a controlled lateral transfer path, helping reduce the need for manual patient lifting while supporting efficient patient and clinician handling.
