ToronCare™ 1140 Manual Transfer Stretcher
The ToronCare™ 1140 Manual Transfer Stretcher is a premium hospital stretcher designed for healthcare facilities that require durable construction, smooth maneuverability, and practical clinical functionality for daily patient transport. Its clean-line design features retractable side rails, an adjustable backrest, and a manual crank-operated scissor-lift mechanism, providing a dependable patient transport solution for emergency departments, surgical suites, diagnostic imaging areas, and general hospital wards.
The ToronCare™ 1140 hospital stretcher features a smooth, fast, one-hand side-rail lowering mechanism with controlled dampening. This allows healthcare professionals to lower the rails and access patients efficiently while minimizing disruption to monitoring equipment and IV lines. The flat Bed Board, measuring 1906 × 610 mm, can align flush with an operating table or hospital bed without a transfer gap. This configuration supports smooth, no-lift lateral patient transfers and helps streamline patient movement between surfaces.
For controlled mobility in busy clinical environments, the ToronCare™ 1140 is equipped with central-lockable 360° castors and a retractable 5th directional wheel. These features support stable steering and easier stretcher handling during patient transport. Standard accessories include a mattress and IV pole, providing essential functionality for routine hospital use.

Theory and Method
The ToronCare™ 1140 uses a manual crank-operated scissor-lift mechanism for controlled height adjustment. Turning the crank clockwise raises the bed board, while counterclockwise rotation lowers it. The scissor-lift system provides stable and even vertical movement across a 560–862 mm height range, measured from the bed board to the ground. This adjustment range supports different patient loading positions and accommodates varying heights of adjacent beds, operating tables, and other receiving surfaces.
The side rails feature a smooth, rapid lowering mechanism with integrated dampening for controlled movement. This design allows a single healthcare professional to lower a rail with one hand while keeping the other hand available for patient support or monitoring. When fully lowered, the side rails sit flush with or below the bed board surface, allowing the stretcher to align closely with an operating table or hospital bed. The resulting gap-free configuration supports lateral patient transfer without lifting, helping streamline patient movement between surfaces.
A retractable 5th directional castor improves straight-line tracking and directional control when moving the stretcher through hospital corridors, doorways, and elevator areas. The central locking system operates the four primary castors through a single foot pedal, securing the stretcher during patient transfers, bedside care, and other stationary clinical activities.
