Biomass Processing System
Biomass Processing Systems | ISO 17225 Solid Biofuel Classification
A Biomass Processing System converts bulky agricultural and forestry residues, including straw, stalks, reeds, and wood waste, into uniform particle sizes suitable for biogas production, briquette manufacturing, pellet production, or gasification. Torontech's ToronBPS™ series offers three configurations featuring double-shaft shredding and ultrafine grinding stages, with finished biomass classified according to the ISO 17225 solid biofuel series. These systems support biogas plants, green methanol and hydrogen production facilities, and gasification or co-firing operations by preparing raw biomass for downstream processing in a continuous production line.
The product range includes a basic shredding and crushing line for loose particulate feedstock, a briquetting configuration for densified fuel, and a fully modular system with optional screening, drying, and pelletizing units. Each configuration uses progressive shearing and grinding stages to achieve the particle size required by the subsequent process, whether it involves an anaerobic digester, gasifier, or boiler.
Applications
Biomass Processing Systems help facilities convert agricultural and forestry residues into usable energy feedstock for various industrial applications.
-
Biogas and Biomethane Production: Processes straw and stalks into fine particles to improve feedstock digestibility in anaerobic digesters.
-
Green Methanol and Hydrogen Production: Prepares densified biomass briquettes for use as gasification feedstock in synthesis processes.
-
Biomass Co-firing at Power Plants: Produces biomass with consistent particle sizes for co-firing alongside coal or other primary fuels.
-
Agricultural and Forestry Residue Recycling: Processes corn straw, wheat stalks, rice straw, reeds, peanut straw, waste wood, and palm waste.
-
Biomass Pellet and Briquette Manufacturing: Supplies fine, dried feedstock to pellet mills for manufacturing biomass pellets or briquettes for resale.
Biomass Processing System Range
The ToronBPS™ series offers three configurations designed to meet different downstream feedstock requirements.
Biomass Processing System (ToronBPS™ 100)
The ToronBPS™ 100 is a basic processing configuration designed for biomethane production and alternative fuel feedstock preparation. A double-shaft shredder followed by a two- or three-stage fine crushing sequence reduces biomass to 30–50 mm, or down to 1–5 mm when a third crushing stage is included.
The fully enclosed system operates with negative-pressure dust collection and requires only one to two operators. It is suitable for biogas and biomethane facilities that need loose, finely processed feedstock without an additional molding stage.
Biomass Processing System (ToronBPS™ 200B)
The ToronBPS™ 200B is a briquetting configuration developed for preparing biomass feedstock for green methanol and hydrogen production. Bale shredding and two-stage fine shredding reduce the material to the particle size required by a biomass pelletizer. A modular molding line then compresses the processed material into dense briquettes.
This configuration is suitable for facilities that require densified, transport-efficient feedstock for gasification instead of loose particulate material.
Biomass Processing System (ToronBPS™ 300M)
The ToronBPS™ 300M is a fully modular processing configuration designed for gasification and biomass co-firing applications. Its double-shaft shredder and ultrafine shredder reduce biomass to 5 mm or finer. Optional equipment includes trommel screening, magnetic separation, drying, and pelletizing units.
The system can produce fine powder, coarse straw, pellets, or briquettes according to the requirements of the downstream gasification or co-firing process. Its modular design is suitable for facilities that need to process biomass into multiple feedstock formats using one production line.
How to Choose the Right Biomass Processing System
-
For biogas or biomethane digesters requiring loose feedstock: Select the ToronBPS™ 100 for straightforward shredding and crushing to the required particle size without a molding stage.
-
For gasification applications requiring dense, transport-efficient feedstock: Choose the ToronBPS™ 200B for its integrated briquetting process.
-
For facilities handling multiple feedstock formats or planning to expand output options: Choose the ToronBPS™ 300M for its modular screening, drying, and pelletizing capabilities.
-
For facilities primarily processing herbaceous residues such as straw and reeds: Any configuration may be suitable. Classify the output according to ISO 17225-6 or ISO 17225-7 for non-woody solid biofuels.
-
For facilities primarily processing wood or forestry residues: The optional pelletizing equipment on the ToronBPS™ 300M supports wood pellet production, with output classified according to ISO 17225-2.
